Operations - Urban Re-development
Local & Regional
Cities, Towns & Boroughs
Westrum Development Company transforms under-utilized and environmentally challenged properties in the cities of Philadelphia, Camden, Burlington, and Trenton into thriving, market-rate residential and mixed use communities. The Westrum team works diligently to identify specific neighborhoods which would benefit from revitalization and partners with Municipal governments, neighborhood organizations, and the building trades to provide development solutions that play a key role in reinventing these areas of blight.
Recognized as a true leader, in 1998 Westrum Development was the first builder in recent history to construct new, large-scale market-rate housing to the City of Philadelphia. The two single-family home communities, located in the Roxborough and Fox Chase sections of Philadelphia, showcase successful urban redevelopment. Westrum is applying the same expertise and innovation that proved successful in these communities to its current and future urban projects.
Westrum Development also responds to re-development opportunities in the towns and boroughs that surround the Philadelphia metropolitan area. We seek locations that are situated near transportation venues and natural or man-made barriers, such as parks, golf course, and existing neighborhoods. These communities are developed where previous housing or industrial sites have been demolished. The new communities can be neo-traditional style or similar in design and amenities to Westrum's suburban communities.
National
The Southworks Project - Chicago, Illinois
Westrum is expanding its urban revitalization activities into the national market with the partnership purchase of the vast Southworks site, located on Lake Michigan, just 10 miles south of downtown Chicago.
The project, 275 acres on the former site of U.S. Steel's Southworks steelmaking facility, is a joint venture between Westrum Development, Philadelphia-based Lubert-Adler Real Estate Fund IV, and McCaffery Interests, Inc. of Chicago that will revitalize the south side of Chicago from an area of blight into a thriving, productive neighborhood. The development team envisions the transformation of this massive, vacant site into a mixed-use, master planned community that will include residential units, retail and commercial space, and entertainment venues, such as a marina, hotel, and 70 acres of parkland.
